About the Giving Circle

Making a Difference in the Lives of Women and Children in Our Community!

Founded in 2016, The Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia Giving Circle is dedicated to improving the life circumstances of low-income women and children in the Philadelphia region by awarding grants to the non-profits that serve them.

In 2023, we awarded a grant of $40,000 to YEAH Philly (Youth Empowered for Advancement Hangout) a Black-led, community-based nonprofit that works with teens and young adults in west and southwest Philadelphia who have been impacted by gun violence.

About Us:

We are a group of members of the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia who pool our financial resources, decide on an area of focus (e.g. homelessness, childhood literacy, immigration), and select a non-profit organization to receive a grant for that year.

The Giving Circle has established a donor-advised fund with the Philadelphia Foundation. All gifts are made directly to the Foundation and are tax-free charitable donations.

Our Goals:
  • Address the issues of poverty and inequality
  • Increase our understanding of these issues
  • Generate greater impact from our giving by pooling our funds
  • Increase the control we have on where our collective dollars are going
  • Build a community of Cosmopolitan Club members interested in philanthropy
  • Strengthen the bonds of our membership as we work together for the common good

"The Giving Circle grant helped us open a second elementary school library in Fairhill, North Philadelphia. When children have a choice of exciting books to take home, they want to read, they read more, and their skill increases. We are very grateful."
